🎉 Celebrating One Year of Joy: Happy Anniversary to Desta Therapy

We’re excited to celebrate a major milestone — one year of Desta Therapy serving the San Antonio community with compassionate, affordable mental health care.

What many don’t know is that our journey began long before we opened our doors in Texas last July. Desta Therapy was born out of the work of No Ordinary Love, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing psychosocial support to underserved communities in Ethiopia. From trauma-informed therapy for children to youth and family counseling, No Ordinary Love laid the foundation for what has now become a joyful mission here in Texas.

Even our name, Desta, means “joy” in Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia— perfectly capturing the heart of what we do.

From Ethiopia to San Antonio: Delivering Joy Through Mental Health

In 2024, our nonprofit evolved into Desta Provisions, which now supports Desta Therapy’s mission to help individuals and families reclaim joy, heal from trauma, and access quality therapy in San Antonio, including in underserved communities.

On July 16, 2024, we welcomed our very first client — free of charge.

Just one year later, we’ve conducted nearly 2,500 counseling sessions — and our client base continues to grow every month. Some clients used insurance, others received care at reduced rates, and some were seen free of charge. Throughout it all, every individual has mattered.
